Thomas Hirschhorn

Switzerland

(Born in Bern,16 May 1957-) He lives and works in Paris.

Swiss artist Thomas Hirschorn is famous for his energetic and crowded installations created using everyday objects like cardboard, foil, duct tape, and plastic wrap. His use of common materials is a political statement, meant to express ideas of cultural resistance as well as capitalist revolt against the consumer goods industry. In addition to politics, his work references issues of art, pop culture, and philosophy, combining them in ways that inspire thought. However, Hirschorn insists that his provocative installations are not about education or the betterment of the viewer.

Hirschorn has exhibited his art all over the world, and his work is included in the collections of prestigious museums and galleries, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris, and the Tate Modern in London.
