(France, lives in California and Mexico City), is emeritus professor of comparative literature at the University of California. Ex- director of the Education Abroad Program (EAP) of the University of California in UNAM and the University of Lomé, Togo, Africa. He was visiting professor in Nigeria, Chile, Germany, Philipinas. He has been tutor at 17 Institute of Critical Studies. He has written books on Ezra Pound, Latin American Literary Literature (Rigoberta Menchú), Marxism and African Literature, and numerous articles on third world literature and theory. He has also been a translator of German poets such as Ernst Meister and Helmut Maria Soik.
